How to get into equine 4-H or a riding club?
Q. I live in MN and I would like to join a riding club or 4-H. I own my own horse and I have been riding my whole life, but I have never shown, and I would love to if I got the chance. My horse is an arabian shetland cross and he does a bit of jumping and he is mostly used for pleasure. What kind of riding or 4-H can I join with him and what do you do in it?

A. Minnesota has many good riding clubs and every county has a 4-H horse program. To join 4-H you must be in at least 3rd grade and under 19. All you have to do is call your county court house and ask for the 4-H extention. They can tell you everything you need to know. I think there is a web site for WSCA which is the guiding club for almost all Minnesota saddle clubs. It stands for Western Saddle Club Association. You could contact them about saddle clubs in your area. Some clubs do lots of shows and are very competitive. Some do just a few and do lots of trail rides. Some are really into parades.
